Thanks to izb, Cassidy, Gr33dy and tef for hosting these. If you'd like to share the m3tatweens in your p2p
programs that would be good too. Let me know of any details to help people find them.
UPDATE: 09/09/03 - m3tatweening shown twice so far
Phase 3&4 combined was shown (after a few hithces) at the Timeless festival on Saturday and quite
a lot of m3tatweeners and other b3tans were in attendance. I've got some photos of the whole
weekend, which also saw it being shown to a even more m3tatweeners & b3tans in London on Sunday.
Thanks go to Lisa at Short Circuits & Dan for making it happen :)
I've added some Blue States to the soundtrack ('Elios Therepia', 'Hero's Elegy', 'Walkabout',
and 'The Trainer Shuffle' in that order) as well as letting Phase 3's song by Goldfrapp
continue into the start of Phase 4. A CD with all the m3tatweens so far is doing the rounds
and being spread amongst m3tatweeners and other b3tans - a 335MB version of phase 3&4 together
is on there as well as high res versions of 1 & 2 and some of my other films.
UPDATE: 03/09/03 - Come see M3tatweening LIVE on the BIG SCREEN for FREE
M3tatweening has gone up a gear now. Phase 4 has been made at 720x576 (PAL resolution)
thanks to a number of factors, one of which was being invited by Short Circuits to contribute to the
Timeless Festival which will have various bands, DJ's and films and will
give people the
chance to see m3tatweening on the big screen.
Phase 4 followed on from phase 3 and I got another 27 segments done (eventually) with
a lot of people putting a lot of hours and hard work into it and some wonderful people
helping out at the last minute as I struggled to get it all completed.
UPDATE: 09/07/03
The third phase has had the animation completed and is ready for it's initial showing.
Here it is in wmv format with no soundtrack and see this page for a quicktime version with sound courtesy of the wonderful Goldfrapp (the track is the Ewan Pearson vocal remix of 'Train').
UPDATE: 23/05/03
The World Premieres of the first two Phases are taking place this weekend at the light plays tricks 6 short film festival.
I was invited by Ad, the Director of the festival, to have them shown.
Phase 003 is in the planning process so keyframes are welcome as always (Digital photos ideal).
UPDATE: 30/01/03
Phase 1 (001-021) now has a soundtrack too. Click to download (Hosted by Spacefish).
In order to enhance the experience of watching the m3tatween, Spacefish organised the making of
a soundtrack to accompany it. The task of writing it was divided amongst five musicians, each
given the task of producing an atmospheric accompaniment to a section of the silent video.
The eclectic results were mixed with the original m3tatween, to produce this musical version.
Music by, in order of appearance: Bob The Dinosaur, Kallus, Brainstuff, Koit & Spacefish.
UPDATE: 28/01/03
Phase 2 (021-041) with a Mr Scruff soundtrack!! Click for best version. It fits very well. (18 MB zip file)
Big thanks to Donthaveaclue for the hosting. If you cant play it download a DivX player.
For those on dial-up here's some RealMedia multi-rate streaming versions of
Phase 1 (silent version) & Phase 2 (lower quality sound)
Thanks to Corpolite for making & hosting these, there are a limited number of simultaneous connections so be patient.
UPDATE: 26/01/03
Phase 2 (021-041) is complete! Click for Phase 2 (Silent version) DivX 4 avi format (12.5 MB).
WOW! - Bigger and stranger, I decided to accept movie formats too not just gifs.
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that's contributed keyframes and animations to all the,
phases so far. You've all helped to capture this unseen potential that has been
floating around unnoticed for so long.
2003 sees the first experiments in m3tatweening. Tweening is when you fill in the gaps
between two keyframes in an animation, but in this case it refers to the unrestricted
creative animations people use to get from their start image to their end image.
I wondered what would happen if you got a lot of random images to use as keyframes,
assigned them a random order and then got different people to tween from one to the
next as animated gifs with no idea what everyone else was doing.
The end result would be a non-stop stream of consciousness from the collective mind
of those that took part. I decided to see what this would look like.
I invited people on the www.b3ta.com messageboard to become my first m3tatweeners. There
were many eager participants and before I knew it I had 21 people tweening away and about
a week later I'd got all of the sections joined together to make the Phase 1 animation.
I see this as an ongoing project that could scale upwards easily and have hundreds of different phases being done according to the same principles. They could then have their completed start and end keyframes tweened together with other phases to keep the animation growing and growing.
This Is Wonderful - How Can I Participate In It?
You can take part in 2 ways. Either by sending in your keyframes (at least 640 x 480 pixels, good quality & copyright free please - other than that nearly anything goes)
or by doing some animation - you will get e-mailed a start frame and an end frame and
it's up to you to decide how to get from one to the other. You can use Flash/Premiere etc
and give me a video file rather than a gif for a higher quality final animation.
Many thanks to the people that have done the first 2 phases of animations. Please be patient if you want to take part, Phase 2 took a couple of weeks to complete and I've got
nearly all I need for Phase 3. So if you aren't in the next one I will contact you for
future phases. (B3tans, please include your username in the e-mail).
